The Best Supabase Auth Alternatives in 2026
By The Alt Auth Team

Supabase Auth is a strong product. It is open source under the MIT licence, supports passwords, magic links, one-time codes, social login, SAML single sign-on and multi-factor authentication, and sits right next to your Postgres data. At the time of writing (October 2026) the free plan includes 50,000 monthly active users, and Pro is $25 a month with 100,000 included and $0.00325 per extra; SAML users are billed separately ($0.015 each after the first 50), and a custom domain is a $10-a-month add-on per project. Supabase says its Auth can be used standalone, but it runs on your project’s Postgres database under the hood. If you want auth that is independent of your database choice, here are five alternatives.
1. Alt Auth — standalone, branded, EU-hosted
Alt Auth is not a database platform; it is a login. Users sign up and sign in on a hosted page with your logo, colours and fonts, and come back to your app with a one-time code your backend exchanges for their details and a signed session token. That keeps it independent of whatever database and framework you use. Data is stored in the EU and the service is run by WeNoCode OÜ in Estonia.
- Works with any backend and any database — nothing to install in your app.
- Branding from Starter ($29, 10,000 users included); full design control and your own web address from Growth ($99, 30,000 included).
- Email/password and Google on every plan; two-step verification from Starter; Facebook and sign-in links by email from Growth.
- Users, roles, organizations, blocking and analytics in one dashboard.
- Honest gap: Supabase’s free and Pro allowances are much larger, and it supports SAML SSO today — on Alt Auth that is coming soon.
“Your auth provider should not decide which database you use — and your database should not decide what your login looks like.”— The Alt Auth Team
2. Firebase Authentication
The obvious comparison. Standard sign-in methods are free for up to 50,000 monthly active users; SAML/OIDC are free for 50, with Google Cloud Identity Platform pricing above that, and phone sign-in billed per SMS. A good choice if your app is already on Google Cloud or Firebase.
3. Clerk
Clerk is a strong fit for React and Next.js. Its free plan includes 50,000 monthly retained users per app; Pro is $25 a month and adds two-step verification, passkeys, branding removal and one SSO connection.
4. Better Auth
If you liked Supabase for being open source and want even more control, Better Auth is an MIT-licensed TypeScript framework that runs inside your app and connects to your own database through adapters for PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, Prisma and Drizzle. You trade a managed service for full ownership.
5. Auth0
For B2B products that need enterprise connections, organizations and a long compliance record, Auth0 remains the reference. Free up to 25,000 monthly active users; paid plans from $35 a month (consumer) or $150 (B2B) for 500 active users.
The verdict
Stay on Supabase Auth if your data lives in Supabase — it is well integrated and good value. Look elsewhere when you want login to be its own concern: Alt Auth for a branded, EU-hosted login with no code to install, Better Auth for full ownership, Clerk for React components and Auth0 for enterprise depth.
