Alt Auth vs Firebase Authentication

A Firebase Authentication alternative with a branded, hosted login

Alt Auth is a Firebase Authentication alternative for teams that want a ready-made login page in their own brand, a dashboard to manage users, and user data hosted in the European Union — without setting up a Google Cloud project.

Is Alt Auth a good Firebase Authentication alternative?

Alt Auth is a hosted, white-label login service with a user dashboard and EU data hosting. Choose it over Firebase Authentication when you want a ready-made branded login page without a Google Cloud project; stay on Firebase if your app already lives there.

Choose Alt Auth if

  • You want a branded login page you do not build
  • You want two-step verification without a platform upgrade
  • You want user data hosted in the EU
  • Your app is not built on Firebase

Why teams look for a Firebase Authentication alternative

A login page you do not have to build

Alt Auth hosts the sign-up, sign-in and password reset pages in your brand. You style them in the dashboard instead of building them in code.

Two-step verification without an upgrade path

Two-step verification is part of Alt Auth Starter. At the time of writing, Firebase multi-factor sign-in requires upgrading to Firebase Authentication with Identity Platform.

Data in the EU

Alt Auth’s database runs in AWS Frankfurt and its API in AWS Stockholm, made by WeNoCode OÜ in Estonia.

When Firebase Authentication is the better choice

We would rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one. Stay with Firebase Authentication if:

  • Your app is already built on Firebase or Google Cloud.
  • You need a large free tier: the first 50,000 monthly active users are free.
  • You need phone-number sign-in, SAML single sign-on or Apple and Microsoft sign-in today.
  • You want to import existing password hashes.

Migrating from Firebase Authentication to Alt Auth

  1. 1

Export your users with the Firebase CLI or Admin SDK (email, name and sign-up date).

  2. 2

Create a free Alt Auth project, add your logo and colours, and turn on the sign-in methods you use today (Google on every plan, Facebook from Growth).

  3. 3

Point your app’s “Sign in” button at your Alt Auth login page and verify the signed token it returns — usually an afternoon of developer work.

  4. 4

Import your users from a CSV file (from Starter). Password hashes are not imported: people set a new password through a reset email, or simply continue with Google.

  5. 5

Run both side by side for a while, then switch the old provider off once everyone has signed in.

FAQ

Alt Auth vs Firebase Authentication: questions

See Alt Auth pricing and how Alt Auth secures your users.

Is Alt Auth a good Firebase Authentication alternative?

Yes, if you want a hosted login page in your brand, a user dashboard and EU data hosting without a Google Cloud project. If your app is built on Firebase, its own authentication is the simpler choice.

Does Alt Auth support two-step verification?

Yes, from the Starter plan ($29 a month, 10,000 active users included). Failed-login alerts are on every plan, Hobby included.

Can I move my users from Firebase to Alt Auth?

Yes. Export your users and import the CSV into Alt Auth (from Starter). Password hashes are not imported, so people set a new password through a reset email or continue with Google.
