Auth0 is one of the most established names in authentication, and for good reason: it covers almost every protocol, identity provider and enterprise requirement you are likely to meet. Alt Auth is a much younger, much narrower product — a ready-made, branded login with a dashboard to manage your users, hosted in the EU. They are not trying to be the same thing, which is exactly why a head-to-head is useful. Prices below are the published list prices at the time of writing (October 2026); check both pricing pages before you decide, because they change.

The short version

  • Pick Auth0 if you sell to large companies today and need enterprise single sign-on, SCIM, organizations and a long compliance track record on day one.
  • Pick Alt Auth if you want a login that looks like your product, a predictable monthly bill, EU data hosting, and an integration your team can finish in an afternoon.
  • If you need company single sign-on (SAML) right now, Alt Auth is not ready for you yet — it is on our roadmap as “coming soon”, not shipped.

Pricing at the time of writing

Auth0’s free plan covers up to 25,000 monthly active users and includes a custom domain, passwordless login, one enterprise connection and up to five organizations. Its paid B2C plans start at $35 a month (Essentials) and $240 a month (Professional), both quoted for 500 monthly active users and priced in tiers above that; the B2B plans start at $150 and $800 a month. Enterprise is quoted by sales.

Alt Auth is priced as a base fee that includes a number of active users, plus a small price for each extra one. Hobby is free for up to 1,000 active users a month; Starter is $29 with 10,000 included and $0.015 per extra user; Growth is $99 with 30,000 included and $0.010 per extra; Business is $299 with 100,000 included and $0.008 per extra. An active user is anyone who signs up or signs in during the month, counted once. Billing is monthly, with no contract.

The honest read: Auth0’s free tier is far larger than ours, so for a hobby project with tens of thousands of users it is hard to beat. Once you pay, the picture flips for small and mid-sized consumer apps — Alt Auth’s paid plans include thousands of users in the base price, where Auth0’s paid tiers start from 500.

How your users experience the login

Both products host the login page for you, which is the safer pattern: passwords are typed on a page built and patched by an auth provider, not on a form your team has to secure. Auth0 calls this Universal Login and offers a no-code branding editor, plus page templates for deeper changes. Alt Auth’s hosted pages are designed to disappear into your product — your logo and colours from Starter, and from Growth full control of colours, fonts, buttons, background images and layout, plus the login on your own web address. On the free Hobby plan a small “Secured by Alt Auth” badge is shown.

“Auth0 is a platform you build an identity strategy on. Alt Auth is a login you switch on and forget. Both are valid — they solve different-sized problems.”— The Alt Auth Team

Features, side by side

  • Email and password: both. Alt Auth stores passwords as salted bcrypt hashes.
  • Social sign-in: Auth0 offers a broad catalogue of social connections, Sign in with Apple included. Alt Auth has Google on every plan and Facebook from Growth; Apple and Microsoft are coming soon.
  • Passwordless: Auth0 includes it on the free plan. Alt Auth offers sign-in links by email from Growth — single use, valid for 15 minutes.
  • Two-step verification: both. Alt Auth from Starter, using an authenticator app.
  • Enterprise SSO (SAML) and organizations for B2B: Auth0 has them now, including on the free plan. Alt Auth: coming soon.
  • Activity history: Auth0 offers log streaming from Essentials. Alt Auth has audit logs and webhooks from Growth.
  • Data location: Alt Auth stores data in the EU (Frankfurt and Stockholm) and is run by WeNoCode OÜ, a company registered in Estonia.

Integration effort

Auth0 offers SDKs for most stacks and a lot of configuration — rules, actions, connections, tenants — which is power you will be glad of at enterprise scale and overhead you will feel on a small team. Alt Auth keeps it to one flow: send the user to your login page, they come back with a one-time code, and your backend exchanges it for the user’s details and a signed session token. There is nothing to install, so it works the same with React, a server-rendered site, Python or a mobile app.

Where Auth0 is clearly stronger

Breadth and maturity. Auth0 has enterprise connections, organizations, SCIM, enhanced attack protection, machine-to-machine tokens and a 99.99% uptime commitment on its enterprise plans, backed by a long track record. If your sales pipeline already contains security questionnaires asking for SAML and SCIM, that matters more than anything else on this page.

The verdict

For enterprise identity, Auth0 is the safer bet today. For product teams that want secure, on-brand sign-up and sign-in without becoming identity experts — and want their users’ data in the EU — Alt Auth is the simpler, more predictable choice.
